You can’t print a document when you need to be maddening. Sometimes it turns out to be a problem that can be resolved with ease of troubleshooting, in which case the whole thing becomes marginally bearable. At other times, though, nothing you do appears to solve or even change the problem, which is challenging to deal with. You may not affect your situation if you reinstall Adobe Acrobat and other printing-related programs you use regularly.

Below are two print spooler errors that can drive you up the wall and how to fix them. These are commonly seen in more than one version of Windows, but the primary methods for solving them remain the same across all platforms.

Error 7031

This error occurs when gdi32.dll fails to identify the size of some of the printer drivers correctly. You may already know that the size of the printer driver needs to be correctly identified so that everything can work smoothly following the print command. In the case of Error 7031, the message you receive says: Citrix Print Manager Service ended unexpectedly. This has been done two times. The following corrective action will be taken in 60,000 milliseconds: restarting the service.

The event ID is 7031 here. After reinstalling your print drivers and trying to print something again, you may get the following message: Windows can not connect to a printer. The local print spooler service will not be running. Please restart the spooler or restart the spooler or restart the machine again.

The most likely explanation is that some of your printer drivers have been damaged or missing. It usually happens after an OS upgrade that could occur while the printer has still been connected to the computer. Alternatively, it may have been caused by an antivirus that accidentally deleted the drivers that were missing. As far as work is concerned, Error 7031 is a substantial roadblock, removing the need to know the exact driver who was corrupted in the first place.

Resolving Error 7031

You need to update spoolss.dll, netevent.dll, and spoolsv.exe first of all. These are essential files and services without which no printing operation can be started on your PC. Make sure you don’t delete any of them by mistake. Do the following after updating.

  • Go to Start, and then search Run to open the command box. Type cmd in the pop-up window and hit OK. Type the depend = RPCSS config spooler in sc and hit Enter. Take care not to leave a space before the = sign, and leave a space after the = sign. If you get the print spooler back in commission, reinstall the printer driver. If you don’t, go to the next step.

  • Download the patch containing the OS driver and extract it to C: Temp. Create a folder by clicking Start, All Programs, and Accessories in that order. Run cmd as Administrator and type MD C: Temp and CDTemp in consecutive lines. Hit Enter.

Error 7034

Resolving Error 7034

  • Create a folder named Print spooler.
  • Start > Control Panel > Printers and faxes > File > Server Properties > Advanced navigate through the following path.
  • Type a new location in the Advanced tab and hit OK. Once done, restart your PC.

  • Hit the Windows and R key combo. In the Run box, type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
