Error 0x00000709 indicates a situation in which a user can not configure a standard Windows printer or a different printer to a default printer. A glitch in Windows Registry settings may cause an error to pop up or a situation where the Registry gives priority to a previously assigned printer as the default.
For troubleshooting printer problems such as Error 0x00000709, backup of the Windows Registry is required before changing the settings manually. To take a backup, simultaneously press the R key and Windows key and regedit key in the Run dialog box. When the User Access Control dialog next appears, click Yes for permission to run the Registry Editor as Administrator.
Modifying Windows Registry Settings
In the Registry Editor window, navigate to File > Export, assign a name to the Registry backup file, and then save it. Click on HKEY CURRENT USER, extend the app tab, and then scroll down to Microsoft and click. After that, click Windows NT to expand and select Windows Folder again. Then right-click on the REG key titled Device on the right side of the Windows registry editor and choose Change from the pop-up context menu.
Now assign the name of your default printer device that you want to configure on your Windows PC. Note that while configuring the printer name, you should leave the text string that you want to configure on your Windows PC without editing it.
For a request such as Can not Edit Device to be sent by Windows, select OK at the request, right-click Windows folder to the left of the Registry Editor, and choose Permissions to extend. This will start Windows dialog box permissions. Select Full Control under the heading Permissions for All in every tab.
Run Printer as Administrator in Windows
If the Error 0x00000709 fails to be resolved, press the Start button, check for computers and printers and open it on the Control Panel. Once the machines and printers are displayed on the screen, right-click on the name of the printer and choose what is printed here. Then, in the print queue window, select Open As Administrator, and in the next menu, select Set as default printer.
