Ink Cartridge img-asdf4-df

Cartridges are the major components of an inkjet printer that spreads the ink onto the paper in a particular pattern to create a text or an image. There are several microscopic nozzles under the cartridge that extract the ink in a specific volume and combine to create different colors on the paper. Some fault in the cartridges will completely stop printing, and this can be triggered for several reasons. Drying ink cartridges is a common problem that prevents printing. It causes the ink to clot inside the cartridges and prevents it from ejecting through the nozzles.

The Reasons for a Dry Ink Cartridge

There are several reasons why ink cartridges tend to get dry and interfere with normal printing function. If the printer is not used frequently, the cartridges can dry up quickly. One way to fix this issue is to run a printer at least once a week and do some cleaning and printing tests.

The drying and clogging of the nozzle heads is another factor. The printer cartridge has an expiry date and continues to use it after the intended date can cause it to malfunction. Refilling cartridges can also result in the air being trapped inside, which causes the ink to dry up quickly. The room temperature also affects the ink in the cartridges.

Fixing a Dry Ink Cartridge

The first step in the solution of a dried ink cartridge is to perform a print head cleaning operation using a device. This will clear any block in the nozzles and thus allow the free flow of the ink required for printing. Run a test print and check if there are any fading areas or misplaced colors in print.

If the cartridge is still not working correctly, gently remove it from the print head and soak it in warm water. Warm water can cause the dried ink to loosen and flow out of the nozzle properly. The portion of the nozzles must also be carefully washed with a cotton swab in warm water.

Repeat until the ink comes out of the nozzles. Wipe off any excess ink using a paper towel and then tape it back to the printer head. Run a test print to see whether the cartridge is working normally. If the problem continues, it is better to replace the ink cartridge.
